Ain't No Party Like A Catholic Party

Mrs S. Boyle - Mon, May 30th 2011

The Catholic Roadshow came to town on Wednesday 25th May. Cardinal Newman School was very proud to host the show. The day started with Mass being celebrated with Fr Stan Fortuna an American Catholic rapping priest and members of our school community including our Chaplain Fr Des. Before Mass began Fr Stan took questions from staff and students about his life and how he started rapping. After Communion he performed an impromptu song which reflected his sermon; a real treat for us all. The students left the chapel inspired by his words and enthusiastic about the roadshow that evening.

The Catholic Show in the evening was a tremendous success with over 100 people attending from local youth groups, other Coventry schools and our own students and staff. Some came from as far afield as Hereford!

It was an evening of great entertainment from Edwin Fawcett and Charlie Pinfold Catholic performers. They performed their own inspirational songs and monologues. There was also a liturgical mime performed by a very brave 14 year old girl called Bobby.

The second half of the concert began with our own school talent of Alice Robinson and Laura Kemp performing some beautiful Christian Worship songs. Then the act we had all been waiting for Fr Stan took to the stage and  didn't disappoint, with some of his most famous songs including the 'Zipper Zone', 'Does everyone have to suffer' and of course 'There ain't no party like a Catholic party' which had us all up and dancing. There was a wonderful unrehearsed dance routine from 6 year old Connor Jordan younger brother of Lori Ann and James, students at our school.

An amazing day was had by all who attended and will not be forgotten for a very long time because 'The Catholic party don't stop!'
