The compassion of Jesus for sinners, for the poor and persecuted and for those outside the law, was already anticipated by Isaiah. We need the example of Jesus to put body into the words of Isaiah before we can take the prophet seriously or even hear what he says. Jesus himself was criticized for being non-observant, unchurched people of the world. Their warmth, compassion, dedication to the poor and oppressed, may teach us an important lesson.

“You, O Lord are good and forgiving, abounding in kindness to all who call upon you. Hearken, O Lord, to my prayer.
