Commentary on the Gospel of

Paul Peter Alphonse, cmf

Yahveh teaches his people that his Law is just which means “justice and fidelity”. To practice Justice is to get to know Yahweh and which in turn takes us to a closer relationship with Yahweh. This Law and prophets get their fulfilment in the person of Jesus Christ. If only we understand and take to our heart that the Law is to be just and practice justice, we can comprehend the text of Mt 6, 33 “ seek first the kingdom of God and its justice”. No doubt that this “Great Law” is expressed in different norms and laws which must be a stepping stone for the integral growth of a person and of society. If not we must not hesitate to deform and reform them so that they can be a great help to humanity. Do these norms and laws help me or suffocate me? “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mk 2: 27).
