Commentary on the Gospel of

Michael Chima, cmf

Isaiah in the first reading speaks of wonder, of what will come if they repent: freedom, the favour of God, light, pasture, water, pity; even the earth will make it easier for them to live with grace. All will come from afar and its people will rejoice in God who never forgets us. Jesus in the Gospel speaks lovingly of his father, the one who does all this and more, who is at work in the world through him. He does only what he sees God doing. Do we do only what we see Jesus doing in God? What do others see when they watch us? Are we known, like Jesus, as the ones who seek and do the will of the One who sends us out from our baptism? Let us pray that we will be aware of the presence of God on our journey through life.
