Commentary on the Gospel of
We are called to be persons of compassion. To be compassionate means we have to go out of our comfort zones and reach out to other people, and moved by the cry of the poor and the sight of burdened people. The Pharisees and teachers of the Law were cursed by Jesus because they were blinded by the minute details of the law and neglecting the essential: justice and the love of God. Love for power and recognition, love for themselves, hindered them from moving a finger to help their neighbors in need. This is the same temptation of those who are eaten by the lure of power, be it in the church or the government. The same woes of Jesus will echo in a place where compassion is missing.
