Commentary on the Gospel of

BD

Morrie Schwartz, Mitch Albom’s professor in his noble Tuesdays with Morrie smilingly said “what’s wrong with number two?” in this competitive world where the measure of greatness is being number one; no one would like to be in the last place. And if you are other than number one, you are nothing. This is how we measure greatness; when we are ahead of other people; when we have more than what they have. But what is wrong with being number two? We are not talking here of being mediocre, of settling for less. Jesus is teaching us humility when he asked us to take the lowest seat. To be humble is to recognize what God has given to us; to be humble is to see that our being blessed is not dependent on our achievements or positions that we have.
