The bulk of an old person’s life lies in the past, and so we expect him or her to be fixed in the past and somehow out of touch with the present, and still more with the future. But for Simeon and Anna, they had eyes to recognize the new thing when they saw it. They had the freshness of mind and spirit that genuinely saintly people have. Such people become old only on the outside. Inside they are younger than any of us!
