Commentary on the Gospel of
God is the Good Shepherd and cares for us. He forgives us when we ask him and shows us mercy; he has compassion and kindness for us. In the Parable of the Prodigal Son (or Merciful Father) the younger brother wants freedom so he leaves his father. We do the same by sinning but like him we can also return to the Father. The older son served his father but as he received no reward so he cannot welcome his brother back for lack of love. Do we need to forgive someone we have hurt or who has hurt us?
