Bible Diary - CMF

Mary Magdalen and “the other Mary” (Mark says “Mary the mother of James and Salome; and Luke mentions Joanna) were the first to know of the Resurrection of Jesus.  Where were the men?  They had all run away!  The women were sent to tell the news to the brothers.  The word “apostle” comes from Greek apostellein, to send.”  Therefore the first apostles of the distinctive Christian proclamation of the Resurrection were women!  Indeed, Mary Magdalen is traditionally known as “the apostle to the apostles.”
