If sorrow is transformed into joy, then sorrow is no longer the enemy of joy, and therefore cannot destroy it. “No one can take your joy from you” (v. 22). They may take your comfort, your commitment, your happiness, but not your joy. Happiness has to be happy all the time, but one moment of joy can keep you going for a week, a year. I met people living in the lap of luxury who were made unhappy by small passing inconveniences, and I met people living in dreadful situations who knew joy. And they knew from experience that nothing could take it away from them.
