Commentary on the Gospel of
Nowadays, the heart is a symbol of live; it has almost become a letter of the alphabet, or a word that means nothing else but love. But in the Scriptures, the heart is not especially a symbol of love. It is not the symbol of any particular emotion, but rather of the whole inner life of a person. Isn’t it better so? What is love if it does not come from that inner place? What value has it if it is not part and parcel of the whole inner life of a person? It can only be a game, a pastime, something that we tire of after a while. What a disaster when your love does not carry your whole life with it!
