In Jesus’ time, the wise and the learned were those who held power, honor and prestige in every aspect of social life including religious institution. Jesus rebuked this kind of logic. Rather Jesus placed the value on the person, on commitments to authentic transformation in personal and social relationships and structures. This was not easy for those wise and learned of his time. But for those who have a truly “less burdened heart”, a free soul and authentic spirit, yes!; those who are simple and honest hearted people; those who know and believe in power of God’s love and mercy.
