Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. George Vayaliparampil, cmf

In contrast to yesterday’s reading (rich fool) Jesus gives us today the work of the servants and says happy is the servant whom the master finds ready to serve him. While the rich man was interested in long and comfortable life the servant is ready waiting or better ‘wide-awake’ for his Master. What does it mean to remain ‘wide awake’ at the middle of the night? He is expecting something very special and different and is waiting with hope. Are we like the servant who awaits the return of the master or are we going to be unhappy servants?
