Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. George Vayaliparampil, cmf

“Why me?” or why should it happen to me?” These are the type of questions we ask when we have problems or misfortunes in our life. Today’s Gospel gives us an answer to this question. Jesus seems to tell us that the misfortune that appears to be ‘the punishment of God’ is just a sign, a pedagogical measure used by God to make us aware of our sin. The answer of Jesus in today’s Gospel seems to underline this fact. There is a saying, ‘a wise man learns from the mistakes of others’. So also Jesus wants us to repent of our mistakes and fully turn to him before the time of our judgment. In fact Jesus calls us to produce the fruits in our lives and not to waste the grace that God is bestowing on us.
