Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Maria Arul Jesu Robin, cmf

Here we are on the last day of the year. “The old has passed away, behold, the new has come” (2Cor 5:17). John says that we are living on the last days and the last hours because so many antichrists have appeared. Antichrists are those who bring division and create troubles. If the days that had just passed, brought frustration, sufferings, divisions and broken relationships in our societies, villages, communities and families, then those days are the last days. If we were responsible for those divisions and sufferings, then we are the antichrists. We shall begin the New Year with the hope that the Word dwells among us and everything came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. As the book of Ecclesiastes says, there is time for everything (cf. 3:1-8). This is the time to banish all types of selfishness, hatred, enmity, division, injustice, violence, corruption, oppression, exploitation, fornication, impurity, idolatry, sorcery, jealousy, quarrels, etc. This is the time for love, joy, peace, patience, justice, generosity, forgiveness, reconciliation, kindness, goodness, unity and selfless service (cf. Gal 5:19-21). Let us be purified by the Word of God and expect with faith and trust the New Year 2015. Let this last day be our first day in living our life according to the Word of God and the promptings of the Holy Spirit. “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev 21:5).
