Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Gregory Ekene Ezeokeke, cmf

The sending of the seventy two disciples marks the a special case of missionary commission by Jesus. The charge not to carry money, sack, sandals is a reminder of the overriding importance of bring “Peace” to the people. This special way of greeting a household is easily comprehensible for any person of Semitic culture. The term “shalom” (peace) is not only an absence of conflict but in the Old Testament it evokes a situation of harmony in creation and with the Creator himself. Today, bring “peace” to all whom you meet during the course of the day and let the light of God shine through you in the life of others.
