Commentary on the Gospel of
To better understand the words of John in the first reading of today, it may be important to look at the example given by Jesus in the Gospel. He was moved with compassion for the crowd that was like sheep without shepherd. He first fed them spiritually and then proceeded with a miracle that saw him offer them bread and fish; they all ate and were satisfied.
We too are called to make ours, the joys and hopes, sorrows and anguish of our brothers and sisters. We will better witness to Christ when we learn to see and appraise events through the eyes of Christ who out of compassion for us, offered his life to redeem us. When we truly love, five loaves and two fish can feed five thousand men.
