Commentary on the Gospel of
In the gospel reading of today, Jesus clearly states his mission; The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”
Much as we all are beneficiaries of the ministry of Christ, he invites us to continue this ministry in our families and society. In keeping with the words of John in the first reading, our love for God must be seen and felt in our love for our brethren (especially for those in need).
