Commentary on the Gospel of
Let’s do a Lectio Divina:
Read: Yahweh makes everything new. Paul considers everything in life worthless when compared to the gift of a personal experience of Christ. Jesus refuses to judge or condemn the woman caught in adultery, but forgives her sins and gives her new life. In the process, he gently brings people to an awareness of their own shared sinfulness with one another and the woman.
Reflect: What does life in Christ mean for you? How much do you value and how well do you strive for a personal encounter with Christ? How affirming and life giving are your ways with people in your lives, even when you cannot approve of their actions or way of life?
Pray: Ask God for the grace to see people through the compassionate eyes of Christ.
Listen: Sit with Christ with your soul laid bare. What do you see there? What does Jesus see in you and tell you?
Act: Next time when faced with a conversation that tarnishes the good name of a person, walk away; or still better, gently persuade the group to change the topic.
