Commentary on the Gospel of
Paul is invited to move to Europe, into unfamiliar territory. Baptism replaces circumcision as the initiation rite in the community of God, and Jesus’s commandment of love replaces the Mosaic Law as the norm of Christian conduct.
Paul’s universal mission is our mission. We too are invited to embrace new frontiers. The difficulties we encounter in breaking new missionary ground are surmounted by keeping our eyes and hearts fixed on Jesus and his model ways. Indeed, if I am not hounded, alienated or criticized, then maybe I need to question my commitment to Jesus and his mission.
