Faced with persecution, and the seeming absence of Jesus’ reassuring presence in the midst of torture, (like Paul underwent), Jesus comforts and reassures us with the promise of the Advocate.
In the midst of trial, the Advocate strengthens us in bearing witness to Christ, as Paul discovers. The Advocate gives us opportunities in bitter circumstances, to confront the world by our counter-witness. Do I trust my identity as a follower of Jesus, in what I know, and in my living the limitless life of the Spirit? How?
