Commentary on the Gospel of
We are to rejoice, says Zephaniah! Why? Because the Lord is in our midst! The prophet repeats that message, and we echo the same in the responsorial psalm!
What do we make of this constant refrain?
We rejoice because the promise of old is being fulfilled. Two women of utmost faith, ones filled with expectation and trust, witness to the fulfilment of the promise. Their joy knows no bounds as they break into cries of joy and of hope in the future where God will make God’s presence known. How am I today, the instrument of that joy and hope?
