Commentary on the Gospel of
Ez 34: 11-16; Rom 5: 5-11; Lk 15: 3-7
We have seen in some of the Gospel readings of this week some hard, revolutionary statements of Jesus like the foolish one building his house on sand, or warning us of wolf-like, false prophets in sheep’s clothing, or of throwing pearls to swine. We do well to become aware of the mental picture we draw of Jesus when we read such passages.
On this feast of the Sacred Heart, we have a counter-balancing image of Jesus. We are revealed a tender, soft-hearted, mother-like Jesus in today’s readings.
It is in Jesus therefore, we recognize the love of God poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit!
