Commentary on the Gospel of
Read: All three readings focus on a new way of being and relating to God. As a mother comforts her child, God will comfort His people and pour down His peace on them. In the new world order, there would be no distinctions or acts of discrimination, but all would share in the identity of Christ and bear God’s peace and mercy. Satan would submit to those who live and preach Christ’s message, and they would receive their inheritance in the heavens.
Reflect: How do I respond to my God who offers me maternal love and affection, whose marks I carry in my soul? Do I volunteer to be his apostle, to share his message of peace and mercy with the world? Why does Jesus send his disciples two-by-two, and what message does it convey to me? Do I rejoice in subduing the enemies of God rather than delight in God’s mercy and goodness?
Pray: Pray that God may reveal to you the specific mission that He wants you to do. Pray that God grants you the courage and freedom to accept and fulfil it joyfully.
Listen: Listen to Christ’s directives as he sends you forth on his (your) mission.
Act: Bless and wish peace to someone whom you meet today.
