Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Johnson Joseph Thurackal CMF

In the response of Ruth to Naomi, “I will go wherever you go; your people will be my people and your God, my God,” we see the great Deuteronomic command of love is reflected and fulfilled. Ruth balances love of God and love of people in her profession of faith in Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Jesus had to pick the greatest commandment out of 613 commandments which are equalling binding on a believer. He overlooked the observance of Sabbath, devotion to Torah or temple in order to present love of God and neighbour as the greatest commandment.

What do I consider as the greatest commandment for my life? Do I have the courage to prioritise the expression of faith by moving away from mere externals, and moving towards the substantial?

We are created out of love. It is actualized in loving the creator and our brothers and sisters with all our heart? How do I practice it in everyday life?
