Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Johnson Joseph Thurackal CMF

God loves every one and he wants everyone to be saved (I Tim 2:4). So, can anyone claim any entitlement before God? The narrow gate is a challenging image. What counts therefore is not our successes or performance. In humility, an honest look into ones’ life will shatter the veils of egoism and pretensions. The narrow gate is the encounter with Jesus through conversion and faith. Therefore, the entry is not without a struggle.

Do I have a face that God recognizes?  How do I know the kind of face God recognizes? A person who trains oneself to listen to God’s voice within and prepares to respond to God’s word, has a face that God recognizes. It is the face of love. Without this every other religious exercise is unrecognizable before God.
