Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Johnson Joseph Thurackal CMF

Paul had a word of praise for the Thessalonians: ‘your faith in God is a news in many places and that we need not say any more about it.’ In contrast, the faith practiced by the pharisees was hypocritic and inhuman. Jesus outrightly condemned such practice of religion.

Religion can be easily used to manipulate others. The disguises and pretentions can be hidden under pious living and spiritual discourses. Faith has to become a news for the right reasons. Genuine faith inspires right action and humble service.

‘Blind leaders’ are those create scandals and remain as obstacles to the faith of the simple people in relying on the power of God. It can be scandalous behaviours, corrupt practices, merciless attitudes etc. Let our faith become a news – a good news.
