Commentary on the Gospel of

JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE  -  "Jesus Christ is Lord and King of our hearts. "

The celebration of Christ the King closes the liturgical year on this Sunday. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925.

On this day, we focus our gaze on Him alone. Not so much on His words, or actions as we have done throughout the liturgical year. He is the centre of our lives, of our history (personal and collective), the King of the Universe, as the feast we celebrate today proclaims Himself "King" when He answers Pilate's question "You say: I am King". Now then, a king different from the kings and rulers of this world". This is why I was born and why I have come: to be a witness of the truth, which is what sets us free. Therefore, the reign of Jesus is a reign of free people, not of slaves and subjugated people.

Let Him be the King of our ilives, our will and heart. A King who, by his word, by his example and by his life immolated on the Cross, saved us from death and showed the way to the lost person, giving light to our existence, marked by doubt, fear and daily trials, without forgetting that his Kingdom is not of this world. He will give a new meaning to our life, sometimes subjected to hard trials because of our mistakes and our sins, on condition that we do not follow the logic of the world and its "kings" (Pope Francis 25-11-2018).

My Lord and my King, do not let the power of this world dazzle us, let our eyes rest on you alone, and let our mouths never cease to praise you.

(Psalm 92) The Lord reigns, clothed in majesty.

HAPPY SUNDAY TO ALL!
