Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Johnson Joseph Thurackal CMF
The first reading shows the tension present among the various Christian Churches, and of different interpretations within the same tradition.  The tension reveals the necessity of an enlightened authority to protect against extravagant claims in the name of the Spirit.

Enlightenment is only when we allow ourselves to be spirited away to vantage heights, as seen in the Second reading.

The Gospel shows that those heights are reached when we are in close union with God.  The Spirit invites both, the teaching authority and the individual, to intimacy with God.  Our dignity lies in belonging to this intimate community of beloved disciples.
