Solemnity of the most Holy Trinity (June 16) John 6: 12-15

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the most Holy Trinity. This is one of our doctrines that is very difficult to explain and understand. Trinity is a mystery which defiles logical thinking. The word “Trinity” in itself is not even directly mention in the scriptures. However Jesus instructed his disciple “to go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”

Truly, our limited minds cannot fully comprehend the absolute being of God, yet we are blessed to experience it and feel it in our lives. It can be liken to defining your love for someone. We cannot define that love because it limits our love and experiences. In fact, it is beyond our words. We can only describe our feeling and experience of that love but never define it!

Moreover, in the second reading, Paul tells us that: “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…” and that “The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.” From this we can have an insight that each of the three divine Persons has His own work yet they are one and undivided. Hence, the Church teaches us that: “The divine persons are relative to one another…the real distinction of the persons from one another resides solely in the relationships which relate them to one another… because of that unity, the Father is wholly in the Son, and wholly in the Holy Spirit…” (CCC255).

These days there is so much emphasis on being an individual, being “myself” but we forget that “myself” is not the whole truth and reality. I am with the others of the world. I live in a community where whatever I do affects the rest of the whole. Yes we are unique and different from each other and we have to learn and to respect that reality. We have different religions, beliefs, culture, nationality etc. but this does not stop us from being united. As a matter of fact, our differences even enrich us as one community where I learn from others and become better because of them. Thus, it is so unfortunate that our differences become the source or reason for killing and hurting each other. God calls us His children, to be united as one family and one community with all our differences. He sends us His Spirit so that we can Love others the way He loves us all. He knows that it is difficult for us to accept and love each other as we are. Thus His Love, the Spirit is helping to bind us all together, the love that respects, sees others as his or her brothers and sisters like the unity and harmony in the Most Holy Trinity. Three divine Person, different from eachother but united as One God.
