Ours is a Christian-Muslim union, and we celebrate what our daughter describes as a hybrid Christmas. It’s not as strange as it sounds, and might in fact be expected in our household. As a former Claretian seminarian partly educated by the Dominicans at UST, I have remained a Catholic, while my wife remains a Muslim.

The story of the Reformation needs reforming

by: Eamon Duffy - The Telegrpah in Ecumenism,

For five centuries England has been in denial about the role of Roman Catholicism in shaping it. The coin in your pocket declares the monarch to be Defender of the Faith. Since 1558 that has meant the Protestant faith, but Henry VIII actually got the title from the Pope for defending Catholicism against Luther.  The destruction of most of the libraries, music and art of England was not a religious breakthrough but a cultural calamity

Beware suspicion, inertia and impatience

by: Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor in Ecumenism,

It is good, too, as Pope Benedict reminded us, to remember what we have in common. For years I was Chairman of something called ‘ARCIC - The Anglican-Roman Catholic Ecumenical Commission' - and we used to study together many matters. But the key to our work was a term called, koinonia, which means ‘communion'.

The true God is accessible to all

The address of the Pope in the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels.  God is not the "property" of believers and no one can in his name "feel vindicated in using force against others". This was the appeal made by the Pope in Assisi on the occasion of the Day of Reflection, Dialogue and Prayer for Peace and Justice in the World which opened Thursday morning, 27 October, with religious leaders in the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels.
