Jesus, the Christ and Prince of Peace

In contrast to the various opinions about Jesus, Peter today voices the response of faith on behalf of all the apostles and all believers: Jesus is not just another prophet; He is the one who fulfills all prophecy.

It may surprise us that Jesus tells them not to share this truth with anyone. But believing Jesus is the Christ is not enough. It does not yet mean mature faith. Even the disciples still misunderstood His mission, imagining it as a matter of power, domination, and victory. In reality, Jesus embodies a mission of suffering and self-giving—a path that, to human eyes, looks like defeat, but in truth leads to the triumph of love and new life on the third day, in the time we now live.

This is why those who proclaim Him as Messiah must first accept and embrace this difficult kind of messianism, marked by humility and service, not strength and conquest.

The meditation offered in the first readings of these days confirms this. The second Temple of Jerusalem seemed insignificant compared to Solomon’s temple. But what mattered was not its outward splendor, but its content—the presence of God Himself in the humility of flesh. In Christ’s humanity, we find the true and final Temple of God, the place where humanity can truly encounter Him, who in His death and resurrection gives us peace.
