Gospel Reflection – February 3, 2026

February 3, 2026

In this Gospel scene, two very different characters appear. One is an anonymous woman, financially ruined, “impure,” but with firm faith; she believes her only solution is to “touch Jesus.” The other is a well-known, prosperous, influential man who believes in Jesus even while his own people mock him.

Both are suffering, both place their ultimate trust in Jesus, both rely on Him, and both are willing to break taboos (impurity and public status) to get close to Jesus.

Jairus’s daughter is dead, yet despite everything, Jesus encourages her father: “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” He takes the little girl by the hand and says, “Stand up.” And the girl stood up.

Maybe our own faith feels dim, darkened, wavering, or even “dead.” Maybe we lack life. Let us listen to the words of Jesus: “Do not be afraid.” Let us allow ourselves to be revived by Him. Our lives can change.
