Gospel Reflection – Thursday, June 5, 2025
Dear brothers and sisters, peace and all good.
In the passage we reflect on today, Jesus prays that His disciples—and those who will believe in Him through their message—may be one, just as He and the Father are one. This prayer shows His deep desire that the unity among believers be a clear sign to the world that God sent Him. Jesus also wants all believers to experience God’s love and to be with Him in His glory.
Unity as a witness.
This unity, expressed through love and communion among believers, should be a visible sign to the world that God truly sent Jesus. But we still struggle with it. Maybe it’s because we are lacking God’s love. Throughout His life, Jesus longed for the love the Father had for Him to reach His disciples and all who would come to believe in Him. That love, shown in unity and communion, must be a reflection of the loving nature of God.
Why should we be united?
So that we can see the glory of God. United with Jesus and with one another, we can be with Him and see the glory the Father has given Him. This glory, which means God’s power and greatness, is something He wants to share with us. By knowing Jesus, we come to know the Father. This knowledge—revealed through Jesus—should be the foundation of our life and mission.
Our mission is clear: to help others come to know God. Jesus’ prayer shows His deep wish that believers become instruments of God, bringing others to the truth of salvation. That’s why prayer is so important—it helps us stay united with the Father and the Son, and with our brothers and sisters.
Today we join in Jesus’ prayer—for unity, for love, for the glory and holiness of God. His words are a call for all believers to be united and to proclaim God’s love to the world.
That’s what it’s all about.
Your brother in faith,
