Dear friends,

The word “remain” feels hard to match with today’s fast-paced way of living. Can we really stay in the same job for a long time? Do friendships survive through every storm? Can a promise hold firm when adversity comes? Do political leaders stick to their promises over party interests? Does “yes, I love you” still mean forever? Or… does everything just depend?

We need to remain—to stay grounded—on the journey of life. Remaining gives us stability, confidence, and trust. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us three times: “Remain in my love.” The evangelist uses the imperative—it’s not a suggestion, it’s a command. In a way, Jesus is saying, “Don’t be foolish—trust me, remain.” Remaining in God’s love brings us joy, fullness, and, as Jesus says, friendship with Him. It’s an invitation to let ourselves be loved—because we need to remain in God’s love to truly live. His love makes us friends, not just servants.

The truth is that the human heart likes to wander. It goes back and forth. We all struggle to stay faithful to our commitments. And when we lose our way, we realize something is missing—we long to return to the stability our hearts truly need. We can’t live in the emptiness. Jesus knows our weakness. That’s why He insists: “Remain in my love.”

When Judas felt the sorrow of having betrayed the One who loved him, he didn’t return to that First Love through humility and forgiveness—as Peter did. Instead of remaining, he ran away through the false door of despair. To fill that gap, today the disciples choose Matthias, whose feast we celebrate. How do they make that decision? In a spirit of prayer—seeking to stay rooted in God’s love.

Why not pray today with this simple request, like a mantra:
“Lord, let nothing separate me from Your love; I want to remain in You.”

Your brother in faith,
