Perpetua, the daughter of a pagan father, was a young noble woman of twenty-two years old and the mother of a baby boy. Felicity gave birth to a girl in prison, which allowed her to join in the martyrdom. They were imprisoned together with Saints Saturninus, Revocatus, and Secundulus. All of them were catechumens and were baptized in prison, where they were joined by their catechist Saturus. Except for Secundulus, who died in prison, they were flogged, exposed to wild beasts, and beheaded for their faith in the arena of Carthage on March 7, 202. In the famous «Passion» document, Perpetua and Saturus explain the dreams they had in prison. A writer, perhaps Tertullian, finished shaping the interesting document.
The feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas, which was previously celebrated on March 7, caused the memory of the martyrs who are commemorated today to be celebrated on March 6 since 1908.
