• Luke 1:57–66, 80 Elizabeth and Zechariah resist popular pressure and, in obedience to the Lord, have their child called John. As reward for carrying out God’s will, Zechariah is freed of his muteness. The positive content of Zechariah’s canticle is worship and holiness of life.

Reflect

• How often I have to recall that God’s ways are not always my ways.

Pray

• Dear God, I ask for the gift to Read • your will in the life experiences that befall me. I ask also for the strength to endure the more difficult things you may require of me.

Act

• Do not hesitate to express an opinion that is not popular but is correct and virtuous. Swim against the tide.
