Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. George Vayaliparampil, cmf

In response to disciples request to “Lord, teach us to pray”, Jesus taught them to pray and he continues with an instruction on prayer. Today he tells us how we should pray and pray without failing or without giving up our prayer. The man in the Gospel received the bred not because he was a friend, but because of his persistence. In 1 Peter 5:6-7 we read “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”. This tells us not to give up, but at the appointed time God will give us what is good for us. Till then we are to continue asking, seeking or knocking at God’s door. Let us believe in the promise of God and be considered as just like Abraham, our father in faith.
