Commentary on the Gospel of

Paulson Veliyannoor, CMF

Read:   Isaiah’s vision shows all nations and peoples flocking to the mountain of the Lord desirous of listening to His teaching and walking in His ways. There shall be no more violence and enmity between peoples, but all shall know the peace of the Lord. Paul invites us to be awake, wear the armour of light, put on Jesus Christ, and walk in the way of the Spirit. Jesus instructs us to stay alert and be prepared, as the day of the Son of Man will come at the least expected hour.

Reflect: A new liturgical year begins. The season of Advent is here. The theme of preparedness welcomes us. We prepare for two kinds of coming—the final coming of the Cosmic Christ, and the personal coming of Christ, yet again, into our individual hearts. Isaiah speaks about the teachability of the people as they stream towards the mountain of the Lord to be taught by God. The best preparation for the coming of Christ, personal and cosmic, is to be taught by Him. We have been taught by Him already through Scripture. How teachable am I by God through Scripture? Am I prepared enough for the coming of Christ through my familiarity with and obedience to the Word of God?

Pray:   Pray for the gift of teachability and preparedness.

Listen:  The Lord wants to teach you. Listen to Him attentively.

Act:      Draw up an action plan for the next 24 days, identifying specific tasks for each day in preparation for Christmas.
