In the Gospel of today, we are presented with the narration of a miracle of man born blind. Looking at the characters of this narration, it is easy to identify them with the different attitudes we have in our Christian community.
In Jesus we have discovered the true light that illumines our life and the life of the world. In Jesus we can recover our sight. We can see more than what the eyes of our body see. In Jesus we learn to see with the heart and mind. In Jesus, in his light, everything recovers its meaning.
At the well, Jesus simply tells the woman that she will remain dry unless she confronts her past and changes her life. These are the words she needed to hear. She submits to the Love of God. From that moment on she is absolved, transformed. Her thirst is quenched.
The readings this weekend challenge us to reflect on identity and how it is revealed and expressed; Jesus’ and our own. This struggle to nurture our inner identity and to express it is not easy in a world in which the desire for fame and celebrity is the norm.
Temptations are a normal part of our existence. It is how we deal with them that shows what we are made of. These forty days of Lent can be used as a reminder that we should redouble our efforts to follow in Christ’s footsteps as closely as possible.
Jesus uses the world ROCK several times. When he called Peter he said, “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church.” Peter himself wasn’t actually a rock, as his unfolding story shows, but he was to be the titular leader of a group of which Jesus himself would be the rock.
"Share your bread with the hungry, and shelter the homeless poor, clothe the man you see to be naked ... give relief to the oppressed.... THEN will your light shine like the dawn ... “That is precisely what we see Jesus doing and that is how we will allow the light of Christ to shine in us and through us.
The Beatitudes: These eight statements extol some of the revolutionary values of the Kingdom Jesus has come to establish. They contain a message of hope for all the afflicted. They are an invitation addressed to all to gaze beyond the dim horizon of human limitations, injustices, tragedies.
