Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Roland Onuekwusi Chidiebere, CMF

May 15 – John 12: 44 – 50 I believe, that’s my strength!

“Whoever believes in me, does not believe in me, but in him who sent me.”

Verse 37 of this chapter points out that in spite of our Lord’s great signs, they refused to believe him! Quite disheartening for any preacher! It dampens one’s pastoral and missionary zeal! Indeed there is a story that when people did not believe St. James that he literally became depressed while in Zaragoza. And that it was in that depressive state that Our Lady of Pilar visited and consoled him! He got re-energized and the pastoral dance went on. Yes, the Lord in His chosen ways divinely intervenes to strengthen those who believe in Him. He never abandons his own.

Dear friends we are reassured that we are not alone, no matter the situation! The Lord Jesus Christ, the Father, indeed the Holy Trinity are with us always. We just have a single task: believe! Whatever the challenge to our Christian calling may be, let us stand firm with the conviction that the Lord God is with us for He is our stronghold.
